Winter research nursery in Chile yields competitive benefits for Minnesota Growers

The "See for Yourself" mission delegation visits the University of Minnesota winter research nurseries in Santiago, Chile.
Minnesota soybean growers, researchers and the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council hit the ground running Tuesday morning after 12 hours travel and an overnight flight that took us from the winter wind-chills of Minnesota to the warm summer sunshine of Santiago, Chile.
Our mission target on day one: the Chilean Institute of Agricultural Research (INIA) at La Platina in Santiago, the home of the University of Minnesota’s winter soybean nursery research station. Established in the late 1950’s, this was the first such winter nursery for soybeans anywhere in the world. The facility continues to play a vital role in the research and development of new genetic varieties of soybeans that keep Minnesota growers competitive in world markets.
